American Chestnut Land Trust (ACLT)

The American Chestnut Land Trust provides some of our favorite hiking in Southern Maryland! There are 26 miles of trails for all level of hikers offer a variety of views including the Patuxent River, Chesapeake Bay, forests, meadows, and wetlands.

ACLT Trail Access

There are three options for accessing the ACLT trails.

  • North Side Trailhead – 676 Double Oak Road, Prince Frederick, MD 20678
  • PF2BAY Trailhead – 105 Vianney Lane, Prince Frederick, MD 20678
  • South Side Trailhead – 1985 Scientist Cliffs Road, Port Republic, MD 20676

ACLT North Side Trails

  • Double Oak Road Trail – 1 mile each way
  • North-South Trail – 2.4 miles each way
  • Parkers Creek Loop – 3.8 mile loop
  • Griffin Meadow Trail – .95 mile loop
  • Holly Hill Trail – 1.96 miles each way

ACLT South Side Trails

From the South Side Trailhead there are 7 main trails and 6 secondary trails.

  • Frog Pond Trail – .52 miles each way
  • Ridge Loop – 1.41 miles loop
  • Flint Trail – .87 miles each way
  • Laurel Loop – 1.07 mile loop
  • Karen’s Trail – .6 miles each way
  • East Loop – 2.01 mile loop
  • Oriole Trail – 2.1 mile loop

ACLT PF2Bay Trail

The PF2Bay Trailhead is located behind the St. John Vianney Family Life Center. The trail is 6.1 miles from the trailhead to the Bay Overlook

ACLT Trail Maps

Detailed maps of the ACLT Trails are available on their website. They also provide paper copies of the trail maps at the trailheads. These maps include trail distances, difficulty levels, and notable landmarks.
